Response to Jade’s Question about Evolution

Jade’s Question:
Hey:) I was curious what u think about evolution… my biology teacher is trying to make me understand it and now I’m confused because it makes sense, but I dont know if I should accept it… it doesn’t seem to go against the Bible.

Good question Jade – here are some ideas

-Evolution certainly happens on a micro level (changes w/n a species – like breeding dogs to enhance or eliminate certain characteristics). The challenge deals w/ evolution on a macro level (one species evolving into another species – like the idea of a reptile evolving into a bird).

-No one can tell definitively if there is macro evolution. While people hypothesize about it, there is not definitive proof that macro evolution actually occurs. I am not saying that there are not arguments for it based on some specimens that have been found, but there is not absolute, irrefutable evidence. Just look at this article which indicates that the evolutional “theory” that man evolved from apes is wrong. Here is the article:

Think we evolved from apes? On the contrary, Kent prof says

The KSU anthropologist has been part of a major research effort in recent years.
STAFF REPORT

KENT — A Kent State University professor of anthropology says we should throw out all those posters and books that depict an ape evolving into a human being.  C. Owen Lovejoy, an internationally recognized biological anthropologist who specializes in the study of human origins, is one of the primary authors who revealed their research findings Thursday on Ardipithecus ramidus, a hominid species that lived 4.4 million years ago in what is now Ethiopia.
“People often think we evolved from apes, but no, apes in many ways evolved from us,” Lovejoy said. “It has been a popular idea to think humans are modified chimpanzees. From studying Ardipithecus ramidus, or ‘Ardi,’ we learn that we cannot understand or model human evolution from chimps and gorillas.”
A special issue of Science (www.sciencemag.org) available today will feature 11 papers that are the first formal description of Ardi, a partial female skeleton….

-In the zeal to find proof to support a position or theory, it seems that many scientists have left real science and moved into areas of speculation and assumptions, and even fabrication of evidence to support their position of macro-evolution.
-I encourage you to not be afraid of science or what real (honest) science may prove. It will not prove the things of God or words of God to be wrong. Historically, many scientists who have made significant discoveries have been Jews and Christians who had faith in God. http://www.adherents.com/people/100_scientists.html  Again, do not be afraid of science. But, be aware of those who misuse science, or those who present assumptions as absolute, definitive proof.

-There are other things regarding evolution of which you need to be aware. Many people advocate macro evolution, and quite intensely I might add, because it is their way to explain the development of our world without God. If they can show what they consider to be a natural process of developing all life, then they can say that a God is not necessary to explain life.

-Your teacher may or may not feel comfortable speaking about God being involved in creation. They may nor may not feel comfortable speaking about intelligent design – God being the supreme creator and setting up the rules in which all creation operates – and the principles upon which evolution could operate. One of the primary reasons that a teacher may not feel comfortable with speaking about God and His creation is due to misinformation about what educators can discuss about God. Further, some educators may even wrongly take the position that students themselves cannot speak about things of God. This view is not correct and is based upon a wrong view of the law. While the Government (being represented by the teacher) cannot force or pressure students to adhere to matters of religious faith, the government cannot stop any student from speaking about things of God, and cannot stop a student from using their faith and belief in God to justify their opinions or points of view. To do so would be an attempt to prohibit students from their free exercise of religion – in violation of the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution.

-Let me urge you to expand your investigation and view of the principles normally discussed in evolution to explore the following matters:

>Do not miss the incredible and marvelous human body – the awesome and beautiful complexity, design and interrelationships of even its smallest parts – cells, bacteria, microbes, DNA & protein molecules, and smaller sub-atomic parts. Designs that express an intelligence we cannot fathom.

>The understanding and intellect of humans that protect the weak, the poor and the helpless – positions which defy the survival of the fittest.

>Move from the elementary pursuit of understanding the creation and development of life on earth, to the real question – where did the material that comprises the universe come from? When did it begin? When did it come into existence? How far does space go? When space stops, then what is beyond that? Space cannot go on forever into infinity – it must have an end. But, where is ends, what is beyond it? If there was a nucleus of super compressed material that was the source of the big bang, then who or what created the material? Who or what created the thing that created the material that formed the big bang? Where did everything truly begin? And then – what was before that? Jade, we are talking about infinity – something that has no beginning, and cannot have an end. Infinity is not possible in the finite minds of humans. It is beyond our comprehension, for everything we know in existence has a beginning and an end. But if creation had a beginning, then what caused it? And, what was before that? The true essence of creation of matter and space is without explanation and outside our understanding of reality. It is supernatural. It is the beauty and majesty and mystery of the everlasting God – the creator God. It is not the mere stuff of a religious belief. The Supreme Being – God – is the only explanation.

-Jade, do not be afraid of science. Engage it. For true science reveals the marvelous and awesome hand of the creator God.

I hope this helps Jade. Keep pressing on for truth. BUT, even more, keep loving people and having mercy and compassion for people, even when they disagree with you or your position, and even when they attack you and make harmful and hurtful comments about you. Choose to love others and serve others, the poor, the weak, the vulnerable, the imprisoned, the sick, etc.. This is the surest sign of the creator God – love! Later, Dale
