This past Sunday night ReNew church met at an awesome lodge on Sand Island in the Catawba River. It was a really nice candlelight night where we celebrated Immanuel – God coming to be with us through Jesus. Our celebration included many creative expressions offering worship to God and blessings to our gathering, including warm greetings by Josh at the main gate; luminaries to light the way prepared by Marti and Lindsay; crackling fires to warm us built by JB and friends; greetings on the porch by Kelsey, Cindy and others; flickering candlelight arranged by Anna;
warm cookies being baked in the kitchen by Heather; passionate rap/rhyme by Crucial; music by Beth, Brandon & Susan; beautiful signing (not singing) of Silent Night by Lesslie; a retelling of the marvelous story of Jesus’ birth combined with voices united in singing carols we love; engaging videos, photos, sights and sounds by Eric and Steve; items for the homeless brought by those attending, and gathered for delivery by Jimmy and Pat; and an offering of our money to be used for direct help to people in our community who are in need.
I had an opportunity to share with our gathering some of the things that God has been speaking into my heart. We ended the evening with hot chocolate and apple cider around the fire with friends, new and old. We were of one mind and one spirit. We were seeking God and celebrating God seeking us by sending His Son Jesus to be with us, to be one of us, and to save us, and to show us how to have true life as we live. God was blessed and we were too. Later, Dale
